Somewhere in my
mind there is a large cliff
When I look down,
it makes my body stiff
The closer that I
am, the more I learn
About how fear can
make my stomach churn
I start looking
for someone in my life
To help me be rid
of this fear and strife
To help to keep
myself on solid ground
And give me strength
by saying “Don’t look down”
Chorus:
So take my hand
every step of the way
Tell me everything’s
going to be okay
So take a deep
breath, count backwards from four
You push me off
the edge but help me to soar
You bring me
closer, closer to the edge
It’s a long way
down and it’s a straight fall
Just one messy
step and you’ll lose it all
But you plant your
feet right and you prepare
You will not fall
but you’ll fly through the air
But sometimes you
need someone at your side
Someone with whom
you can share the ride
Someone who shows
you there’s no need for fright
Someone that you
can be with day or night
CHORUS
CHORUS
Feel the
acceleration
As you climb the
elevation
You will learn of
aviation
As you feel love’s
revelation
It’s time you let
yourself be free
And be rid of monotony
That way you can
successfully
Become the best
you that you’ll be
CHORUS
CHORUS
Closer to the edge
Closer to the edge
Closer to the edge
Sometimes lyrics
that I write turn out to sound more like a poem than usual. This, to me, seems
to be one of those instances. It’s about finding somewhere that pushes you to
be your best self. It might take you out of your comfort zone, but at least you’ll
have someone there supporting you all the way.
