Everything I Need

I hope you know this is no joke
For the heart knows this is right
Didn’t know what I wanted
Until you came in my sight

One can hope, one can dream
Our love is what it seems
We can make a good team
See the sun through the steam

Chorus:
Nothing you can do can stop my love for you now
Nothing you can say will make me look away
Nothing you can think will cause my heart to blink
‘Cause everything you are is everything I need

I’d been searching for so long
That it kind of made me sick
Now that I’m on solid ground
Well it’s time to work on this

Let my love aim for you
I’ll play this game with you
Nothing to blame on you
I’m still the same for you

Reprise:
Nothing in this world will separate us girl, yeah
Nothing that I see can affect your beauty
Nothing that occurs will make my heart deter
‘Cause everything you are is everything I need

I wish you no bad
I miss you so bad
I wish you no bad
I miss you so bad
Want to see your red lips
And feel your fingertips

CHORUS

CHORUS

These are just some simple lyrics about love. I tried to make a contrast between “nothing” and “everything” in the chorus and reprise. When you find a special someone, it seems like nothing can affect that relationship. That’s because that person represents everything to you. I believe that’s what everyone is looking for in life and what everyone needs as well.

Back to Square One

Everyone keeps passing by
I can’t even see their eyes
I’m floating, going nowhere
Wishing I was over there
I’m drowning in my routine
Cannot see what should be seen
It’s hard to break the tough shell
Of what I’m knowing so well

Chorus:
I’m stuck in a rut, you know that feeling?
It’s like being cut, but never healing
I need to climb out, I need to escape
Time to change my route, let the past be erased
Want to flee away, go back to square one
Goodbye yesterday, and away I run
And away I run, and away I run

My mind is drawing a blank
I’m staring off into space
I don’t know the day or week
Point of view is getting bleak
Why is time looking the same?
Time wants me to play its game
It’s the time to make a choice
To stand up and use my voice

CHORUS

Being trapped can hurt your soul
Makes you want to stay and go
Why do my feet feel so stuck?
How did I end in this rut?
I don’t know how I got here
None of the reasons are clear
Although it’s safe, it’s too much
This rut has become my crutch

CHORUS

I don’t know about you but sometimes I go throughout my days and weeks and it all just feels the same. It feels like I’m frozen in time. These lyrics are describing someone who wants to go back to a certain point in time or just go somewhere new. We occasionally need that shake-up in our lives.

Unexpected Crush

It’s like I woke up and thought of you
In a different way
Your feelings haven’t changed, but mine have
And they’re here to stay
There was emptiness, now there’s a spark
Lighting up my world
I’m finding the true meaning of life
By loving this girl

Chorus:
Babe you’ve turned my world around
You brought me to your stratosphere
And I need to adjust
Babe it’s hard to imagine
That you have become my unexpected crush
Babe somehow I fell for you
I thought that there was nothing there
But my heart got a rush
Babe you’re all I think about
You have become my unexpected crush

I feel I’ve known you longer than I have
Do you feel the same?
My mind’s gone through all scenarios
But my fear’s to blame
Now you’ve found someone but I just can’t
Be happy for you
You’ll never know that you were my crush
You’ll never know the truth

CHORUS

Why are you stuck to
My memories of you?
Each time I saw you
I felt something new
You were just a friend
But then something more
Love came to an end
I have lost the war

I wrote this a while ago but it can happen to anyone at some point in time. Have you ever realized you developed a little crush on someone that you never thought you would? It probably developed slowly but before you knew it, it was there. These lyrics hopefully reflect that kind of situation.

Good to Gone

I remember seeing you
Over there, not far from me
I remember that you looked
So pretty in the city
My feet used to weigh a ton
As I went down through the town
But fast forward to today
I never see you around

CHORUS INTRO:
You always seem to
Push your luck and push your love
You push…your luck
And push…your love

CHORUS:
How did we go from good to gone?
How did we end up here?
When did we move from right to wrong?
When did we make this clear?
Our friendship just keeps on shrinking
Like the night hides the dawn
And so I’m left here thinking that
We went from good to gone

I used to use all my strength
To help get past all my fears
But now I’m using my strength
So I can hold back my tears
There is one thing that you’ve done
That’s leaving me with shivers
You’ve numbed your heart of my love
So now my tears are rivers

CHORUS INTRO

CHORUS

I’m finding it hard to sleep
That I’m left here with cold hands
I hardly recognize you
What happened to all our plans?
I still remember those times
When we used to talk all day
It’s giving me stomach pains
To see we now keep away

CHORUS

“Good to gone” is a little catchy phrase that came to mind when thinking about how people can go from a great relationship with each other to rarely communicating at all. It might happen slowly, but before they know it they don’t even talk to one another. That can be a difficult transition for many people.

Friend

You know the world enjoys hurting you
Don’t let life keep getting you down
‘Cause I hate to see you feel this way
Even if you’d rather just frown
Others may pour salt in your wounds
Not even knowing that it stings
I want to be there to dull the pain
So that you’ll see what a friend can bring

CHORUS:
Sometimes we just need somewhere to be
Sometimes we just need someone to hold
Sometimes we just need some help on our way
Just know my friend, I’ll always take your load

Why do you want to be alone?
Well know that I’m a step away
Let me carry you through sun or rain
There’s no reason you should be afraid
My shoulder is here to rest your head
And I’ll always keep you on my mind
There’s no telling what you can do
So tell yourself you’re one of a kind

CHORUS

I’ll be there when you fall
And lift you up again
I’ll be there as your shield
When your world’s caving in
I’ll cry when you’re crying
So you don’t cry alone
I’m just a call away
Make sure to use that phone

CHORUS

CHORUS

My friend, I’ll take your load
My friend, I’ll take your load
My friend, I’ll take your load

I wanted to write something describing a true friend. These words could be your words to a friend of yours. It may be what a friend of yours says to you. Or maybe it could be the words of the best friend to each of us: the Lord.

Turn Back Time

There’s an itch on my back
And it is so hard to scratch
I’m struggling to reach
We dance out in the rain
Find out it’s a hurricane
Now we’re left on the beach

Time can itch, time can pour
Time can leave you wanting more
Rub the lamp, cast the spell
You can know each other well

Chorus:
Turn back time, turn it back
Turn over the hourglass
See the sand running down
See what we had, become found
Place your hand in my hand
Together we’ll move the sand

You can do as you please
When there is no gravity
You can soar through the air
Come along for the ride
Like a coin we have two sides
But we are both still there

Time is fun, time is free
Time is also addicting
Rub the lamp, cast the spell
You can know each other well

CHORUS

You realize the mistake
After it’s already made
So you work on fixing it
Little bit by little bit
Move the moon by turning time
And you’ll see you’ve turned the tide

CHORUS

CHORUS

Turn back time, turn it back
Turn over the hourglass
Turn back time, turn it back
Turn over the hourglass

The verses and chorus all have a similar rhythm to it, but the chorus has the main message. The whole message of this piece focuses on time. There may be times when we want to turn it back to undo something or redo something or relive something. The chorus mentions a good way of imagining turning time back: turning an hourglass over to place the sand where it once was.

Red

My hand runs through your hair
My blood runs through your veins
Leaves move from windy air
And falls when the sky rains
So let the rain pour down
And just cut me some slack
Save me before I drown
Instead of fighting back

Allow my red to flow
You’re causing it slow
Making me trapped below

Chorus:
Red is the color of blood
Red is the color of love
My heart feels like it’s bleeding
But my heart is just beating
To your heart, to your heart
My heart is just beating…for you

Don’t take love for granted
It makes your blood run cold
Love can be enchanted
When the truth’s not controlled
Our love is raining blood
Causing me worlds of pain
We’re caught in a flash flood
And now our worlds are stained

Give my red time to heal
There’s nothing I can feel
It’s time to strike a deal

CHORUS

Please leave my red alone
Bad blood is all I’ve known
My love is on its own

You are a fantasy
You’re imaginary
Feels like eternity
Since I’ve seen you

CHORUS

These are some more obscure lyrics that I have written. They also seem to go deeper than other stuff I have written. If you read closely, there are several repeated themes: love, blood, and water. The color red is used to symbolize two different ideas in the words.

Let Me Know Your Name

I was just getting over
Having my heart broken
And forgetting the last words
That she had spoken
But then I ran into someone
And I had a felt a flame
She had to go, was running late
I didn’t get her name

Do you know the power of your name?
Please, let me know your name

My memory can’t forget
Your piercing blue eyes
So I pass by the same place
Hoping that you’ll arise
I tried and tried and tried and tried
Although you never came
I don’t think I’m asking too much
Just want to learn your name

Chorus:
Do you know the power of your name?
Please, let me know your name
There is some saving grace in your name
Please, let me know your name
I may not be the one
But I promise I’ll be done
If I can just know your name

One day I’m driving downtown
I see you wearing a white gown
Standing by you is a man
That moment messed with my plan

CHORUS

I read in the newspaper
Something that is a shame
I did learn what you go by
But learned of your new last name

Just a quick thing to note: this is not a situation that happened to me. I wanted to state that right off. When writing, I sometimes try to think of scenarios to put myself in. Occasionally I tell a story in my lyrics. With these lyrics, I tried to do both. Also, I pretty much wrote the lyrics to the tune of “Name” by Goo Goo Dolls. Just a fun fact!
